Political Conventions 101
There is something about political conventions that make me sick. It's not the speakers - they are there speaking their minds and trying to influence American politics, and the democrats this year have an excellent series of high-profile talented speakers.

It's the idiots in the crowd. I always end up asking myself, "I'm supposed to like these people because they are democrats too?" These people go nuts, and what for? A 12-year old Oakland girl ranting about time-outs? It is absolute nonsense at it's pinnacle. It's a circus, and a circus is what it is supposed to be. I don't understand it.

(And the coverage is non-stop. "Now making his way to the podium...")

The truth of the matter is it is very hard to watch such a spectacle made of your world-view. It is much easier for me to watch portions of the GOP convention (GOP = Grand Old Party) because I can say, "Now there is an asshole." What can I say during the DNC? "That's a great idea," and then throw up my straw hat, wave a Kerry-Edwards banner and hoot-and-holler. I don't think so.

I have already made up my mind. In fact, I made it up years ago. This convention's purpose is to introduce John Kerry (and re-introduce Bill and Hillary Clinton) to the masses of American non-politicos. I have no use for it.

But how priceless was seeing the son of Ronald Reagan ripping into G.W. Bush? I thought Bush at least had the Reagans in their corner.
