As a result, the election would be sent to the House of Representatives in January 2005 after newly elected representatives are sworn in.
Each state delegation gets one vote. Currently, Republicans control 30 state delegations (states that have more republicans than democrats in the House) and the Democrats have 15. Four are tied. Vermont's single sead is held by an independent (a socialist actually).
Therefore, unless a huge shift occurs this Novembr in the House, the election will go to Bush. Additionally, in a tie the Vice President is chosen by a mojority vote in the Senate. (How about that: Bush steals the election, and Kerry becomes the Vice President. It would be like in the founing father's days where the man who came in second became the VP.)
