The weapons inspectors Bush sent into Iraq to find those weapons have returned to Capitol Hill. Charles Duelfer has told the American people that Saddam has not had WMD since the end of the first Gulf War in 1991.
Dan Froomkin of the Washington Post writes, "Do you remember what President Bush was saying about why Hussein was a threat, in the run up to war?
"He said Iraq had chemical and biological weapons and was reconstituting its nuclear weapons program. He said sanctions and weapons inspections were ineffective at curtailing these programs. He said Hussein might put weapons of mass destruction in terrorist hands.
"Duelfer says that's all wrong."
Mr. Bush now states that the reason to go to war has been bolstered by the fact that his rationale for war has disintegrated. "I believe we were right to take action, and America is safer today with Saddam Hussein in prison. He retained the knowledge, the materials, the means and the intent to produce weapons of mass destruction, and he could have passed that knowledge on to our terrorist enemies." We must now hunt down and kill anyone who has intent (which may actually be everyone, since the United States is so hated around the globe).
