This video evidences the ignorance of the GOP. As usual, State of the Union addresses are filled with standing ovations that tend to last too long. Bush's SOTU 2004 address was no exception. However, the GOP at one point chose an awkward time to give the president, and in a sense, the people of the United States, a standing ovation. The democrats are the first to applaud, and they did in an sarcastic ironic fashion, and for some reason Bush left them an opening to do so. (Note how Cheney openly chuckles at Bush's faux pas of allowing the Dems to interrupt.) Then the awkward part: Bush's next line is that the terrorist threat will still exist in the future, and in a futile attempt to overshadow the democrats previous sarcastic applause, the GOP memebers of the Congress stand up and give the president an ovation. An ovation to the idea that the terrorists will exist in the future. (And an ovation to the fact that the president had failed the American people in the war against global terrorism.)
Key provisions of the Patriot Act are set to expire next year. (Applause.) The terrorist threat will not expire on that schedule. (Applause.)

There's just nothing like applauding a terrorist threat that won't go away...
