In the News... Gay Bush Email.
There are three big stories out there today (not including the Israel-Hezbollah war, the Iraq war, the war on terror, and other critical issues)...

- The most surprising result of the House voting down a "Gay Marriage Amendment" is the revelation that the White House doesn't understand law: "When activist judges insist on redefining the fundamental institution of marriage for their states or potentially for the entire country, the only alternative left to make the people's voice heard is an amendment of the Constitution." There are many alternatives, in fact, including passing a law, namely the Defense of Marriage Act. It is a federal crime to steal a person's mail, but that ain't in the Constitution. Or is it?

- An internal investigation (read: Bush administration) into the legality of the illegal wiretapping program approved by Bush was halted by Bush: "The president of the United States makes the decision."

- And any thoughts that email is going the way of regular mail (that is, goodbye) is highly overblown. Email, in fact, has become the equivalent of a typed letter, only better because it is instant, and just as authoritative. I do like IM (and used it as a crutch during college but no longer do since no one I know even signs on anymore; where are you people, at work?) but could you imagine asking your boss or friend, "Hey, did you get my IM?" and honestly expect them to have documented or saved it? An IM, just like a phone call or text message, is for passing conversation, not for delivering information. And that is what email is all about. I will IM a friend "hello" but not my tax advisor (although I do not have one) "hey, can u check my tax return [ctrl-v]." And who really cares what young people think? When they finally decide to vote, then we'll listen. (ps, I'm 26.)
