Alright, as I speak, there is a production crew -- I believe for either a movie or commercial (I can't tell) -- set up and filming below my building here in Oakland. (This is not a usual occurence so I am watching somewhat attentively -- it is within my zone of eyesight, so I can't really avoid it.)

The camera is on a track, which was my first clue this wasn't just a local news production. They are filming outside of the Federal Building (not my building, I am across the street), and a lot of people come into work late (typical Federal employee) so there are a lot of people crossing the street into their shot... which leads me to believe that they are filming a "coming into work" commercial (or scene for a movie).

I don't think this is HBO.

UPDATE: I am pretty sure it is going to be a car commercial -- they have hosed down the streets --- but it is not that nice of a car (tan Camry) and the windows aren't tinted and the license plate is on the vehicle (unlike car commercials).

UPDATE: It is confirmed that it is a commercial starring former 49ers quarterback Steve Young.
