reyonthehill: VHS
VHS
I watched a VHS tape of Spy Game last night, which is one of the better spy movies, and I don't hear enough people talking about it (Brad Pitt and Robert Redford, people), and I noticed that, (1) the quality was not that bad, maybe because I exclusively used audio-video input connections, instead of standard coaxial cable, and the sound was directed through my stereo, and (2) I have no idea what VHS stands for.

VHS has become the HBO of everyday acronyms. Home Box Office. Yea, HBO. Columbia Broadcasting System. Yea, CBS. But VHS... I was thinking Video Head System maybe, not Video Home System. Throwing "home" in there is so 1980s.

More importantly, I've realized my VHS tape collection is not all a waste of space, destined for the deposit box at the Salvation Army, since the quality is not that bad, and is more than just watchable. HD beware, there is competition here, alive and well.
