This one was easy. Fred Thompson, the lazy candidate from Tennessee, has formally dropped out of the race. This leaves the number of candidates from the right to five (in some logical order)...

- John McCain, the new and improved front-runner;
- Mitt Romney, another comeback kid;
- Mike Huckabee, falling fast;
- Rudy Giuliani, all hands on deck in Florida; and
- Ron Paul, in it to win it.

And on the democratic side, or the good guys, there stands three (not including you know who)...

- Hillary Clinton, front and center;
- Barack Obama, in the cross-hairs; and
- John Edwards, playing for second-place.
