What a find. We use salt everyday, and it is a staple in nearly every food we eat, yet it is mined out like gold or iron, and is stockpiled like gravel. Are there any other substances in the ground that we can use as food additives?

Who was the first person to start digging into a mountain side, find a white crystal-like substance, and think, "Hey, why don't we sprinkle this on our corn-on-the-cob?" That sounds like a great idea.
