Bush: U.S. Will Continue To Torture
President Bush has vetoed a bill banning waterboarding and other harsh interrogation methods. In light of his long-expected veto, the president has acknowledged that these potentially illegal activities have been, in fact, conducted on suspects, despite a recent history of repeated denials to the contrary. There is no doubt, waterboarding is torture.

The president says that the program in question is cruical because "it allows the C.I.A. to use specialized interrogation procedures to question a small number of the most dangerous terrorists under careful supervision." However, it is not the program that is being criticized, but the methods within the program that are questionable, and in many cases, blatantly deny rights provided in the Geneva Convention.

The president's veto continues his despicable record on human rights, and is an affront to international law and American decency.
