Bush says so many stupid things (soon the dictionary will have a definition of bushism) it doesn't even make news anymore. And we accept that Bush isn't the most prolific speaker, or the brightest person, or even a good guy when we really take a look at his policies. But sometimes you wonder whether he knows what he is talking about.
First, let's take his statement regarding the "sovereignty" of Native American tribes.
"Tribal sovereignty means that, it's sovereign. You're a—you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And, therefore, the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities." (Washington, D.C., Aug. 6, 2004)
And three days later we ponder if Bush even knows what "sanction" means.
"Secondly, the tactics of our—as you know, we don't have relationships with Iran. I mean, that's—ever since the late '70s, we have no contacts with them, and we've totally sanctioned them. In other words, there's no sanctions—you can't—we're out of sanctions." (Annandale, Va., Aug. 9, 2004)

You hear of Kerry saying something about Hollywood having the soul of America on the news. You wonder what he meant and many had wondered if he had gone nuts.
Now for most intelligent Americans (the blue states) such a comment doesn't change your opinions. But the majority of the other Americans (the red states) find that such a comment infuriates them; suggestions that red-commie-liberal-Hollywood persons would have such an esteemed quality as middle-American values ticks them off.
Well, what did Kerry say on that fateful July 8th?
"Every performer tonight in their own way, either verbally or through their music, through their lyrics, have conveyed to you the heart and soul of our country."
And Bush lambasted those torrid comments on national television on August 18th.
"The other day, my opponent said he thought you could find the heart and soul of America in Hollywood."
You make the call. Maybe if Bush had a talk show (I am sure Fox News has room in their schedule) he could have played the statement Kerry made and then retorted it. But instead he just made something up and went with it.

Bush impersonator Will Ferrell (of Saturday Night Live fame) recently made an appearance at an NRDC dinner. Bush struck a chord with the environmentalists.
"At the fund-raiser, Mr. Ferrell's Bush, who was wearing a flight suit, boasted of his plan to replace logged ancient redwoods with 'substitute trees' made out of red-painted plywood. He then told the crowd: 'Will I be able to do everything you people want? No. Frankly a lot of endangered species are going to be extincted. But this is part of evolution and natural selection. Which, by the way, I don't believe in.'"

Bush's health care reforms have succeeded all expectations. "Since Bush took office, the number of Americans without health insurance has climbed by 4 million, to nearly 44 million."

While campaigning in Niceville, Florida, last Tuesday, Bush received the following compliment. "This is the very first time that I have felt that God was in the White House."

Sean Hannity and his fellow ignorant conservative friends consistently and constantly mislead their listeners with untruths about the founding fathers. James Madison would flip over in his grave if he knew how his political legacy is being misused by the conservative minority in this nation.
"You want to refer to some liberal activist judge..., that's fine, but I'm going to go directly to the source. The author of the Bill of Rights [James Madison] hired the first chaplain in 1789, and I gotta' tell ya' somethin', I think the author of the Bill of Rights knows more about the original intent -- no offense to you and your liberal atheist activism -- knows more about it than you do." (September 4, 2002)
What Sean Hannity doesn't understand is that the first congressional chaplains weren't hired by James Madison - they were appointed by a committee of the Senate and House in, respectively, April and May, 1789, before the First Amendment even existed.
James Madison's view, as presented in his Detached Memoranda: "Is the appointment of Chaplains to the two Houses of Congress consistent with the Constitution, and with the pure principle of religious freedom? In strictness the answer on both points must be in the negative."

An illustration of the inept president and vice president when it comes down to average Americans and taxes.
First, Bush in Canton, Ohio:
"He [Senator John Kerry] said he's only going to raise the tax on the so-called rich. But you know how the rich is: They've got accountants. That means you pay. That means your small business pays. It means the farmers and ranchers pay."
A quick explanation from a White House spokesperson, Claire Buchan:
"The president is noting that the so-called wealthy have the resources to hire accountants to find ways to reduce their tax bills."
And then Cheney in Missouri:
"I know I couldn't possibly fill out my own income tax form. I need help. And unfortunately, that's true for all too many of us."
I wonder which "us" Cheney is referring to.

The American people don't deserve George W. Bush. The American people don't deserve a conservative as their president. We are too noble and too intelligent as a whole (and too ignorant and inferior individually).
We have been shafted - a stolen election, an attack on our own soil, a feeling of unease, and Bush has taken advantage of it all. Bush has destroyed our standing in the world community. Bush has allowed the polluters to regulate the polluters. Bush has given the haves more and the have-nots less. (And he promises to do more of the same the next four years!?!)
Bush doesn't hide from his far-right religious conservative governing style. Bush picks his poison. He believes strongly in the second amendment but doesn't understand the meaning of the first, fourth or eighth. Bush ridicules the left-leaning portion of the population (anywhere from forty to sixty percent of us) and the rest of the world (especially our allies in Europe) in order to secure his base; his base is locked in a vault buried on the ocean floor and the key is hidden in Dick Cheney's ass.
Bush refuses to come out of his shell. And that is what scares me. A man who doesn't admit he did wrong is not the problem; a man who doesn't know that he did wrong is.
