Bush Doctrine Fails

Bush’s misguided choice to invade Iraq has made our nation more difficult to protect and more vulnerable to attack. The notion of pre-emption, however, is not an unfounded one. Bush misused the support of the American people post-911 to garner public support to attack Iraq. As a result the American armed forces are paying the price.

The president willfully decided to attack Iraq – it was not a last resort. Iraq was not an imminent threat. Iraq had little, if anything, to do with the horrific events of nine-eleven. Saddam Hussein was a menace; that is not enough to preemptively attack a country. Mr. Bush has made the war on terrorism more difficult as a result, and more deadly for the American troops.

The terrorists that attacked America still reside in Iran, Saudi Arabia and parts of Pakistan, and North Korea and Iran are building nuclear arms, but instead we attacked Iraq. In doing so, we strayed away from the fight against worldwide terrorism and, instead, helped Bush’s cronies find more of what they want – oil.
