Emails with Dom: I Don’t Know Anyone

Good point; but I thought the nickname really worked with him. And on your point, I am utilizing the negative connotation of "fag" and applying it to Hannity, who is an anti-gay fruitcake. In a sense, I'm probably doing the pro-gay marriage people a favor. And you are right, I am pro-gay marriage, as long as I don't end up on the dance floor doing the hokey-pokey at the reception. (Not that there's anything wrong with that...)

I find your blog consistently amusing. Some constructive criticism regarding
"sean faggity". We all know he's a queer. But by using "fag" in a negative
sense, you give the impression of viewing gays negatively, which you
obviously don't. I'm not whining (even though Martin says I'm a bleeding
heart liberal), just pointing out that someone who reads you blog and
doesn't know you might think you're anti gay marriage. they might think
you're profamilyproschwarzneger

Bush’s Response to Bennett’s Racism: Wrong Time, Wrong Place

A former cabinet official (albeit Reagan's) and Bush supporter (and friend of the Bush administration) states that aborting black babies would reduce crime, and Bush's response, through his press secretary, Scott McClellan, is...

"The president believes the comments were not appropriate."

Source: MSNBC.com

Not appropriate? The president neither condemned the statement nor did he (through his press secretary, that is) call for an apology. Bush, more than likely, felt the statements made sense, but lacked the compassionate conservatism for morning right-wing radio.

At Fox News, Good Journalism Is Anti-Americanism

Apparently it is company policy at Fox News that good journalism is "frowned upon," for fear of emitting anti-Americanism. And we thought that Sean Faggity, Bill O'Reilly, et al., just lacked journalistic integrity. From the September 27 edition of Hannity and Colmes on the Fox News network...

CAVUTO: I am saying this, though, that I would much sooner go down as a pretty good American when I try to be versus a good journalist. The good journalist thing is not nearly as important.

HANNITY: Well, I think you're a great American.

Is Faggity stating his opinion that he thinks Neil Cavuto is a piss-poor journalist?

Have you ever received this error? I wasn't exactly sure what to think. And do I find comfort in knowing that the "broken pipe" error is number 001? (Click on image for full image.)

White House Plays Party Politics

It used to be that the White House would let the political hacks play the dirty-name-calling politics in Washington. But now that most of these political hacks (on the GOP side of the aisle) work in the White House or work with cronies in concert with the White House, there is little breathing room between the Oval Office and politics. In fact, for most of the day, there is none; and if Bush hadn't the sleeping habits of a toddler, it could be worse.

Take for example, today's press briefing with Lyon University alum Scott McClellan...

Q Let me -- these are obviously difficult days for Republicans. The top Republican --

MR. McCLELLAN: Not for Judge Roberts. (Laughter.)

Q Good point there. But the President's political standing has eroded significantly; we've gone through the laundry list of other potential legal problems for other top Republicans. As essentially the top Republican in the land, how does the President --

MR. McCLELLAN: Someone had to stop all the goodwill in this room.

Q Right. How does the President assess the state of the Republican Party, a party that's got to face voters again in congressional elections --

MR. McCLELLAN: The Republican Party is a party of ideas, and a party of finding solutions to the pressing problems before the American people.

Firstly, is John Roberts a republican or a conservative? I had thought he was being billed as a conservative, not as a member of the president's ruling party. If Bush had stated to the American people upon nominating the sitting Chief Justice as, "my political friend and GOP donor, John Roberts," would he have any success in being confirmed?

Secondly, ideas only mean something to this president if they come from the GOP. (That, or if they are truly poor ideas.) The president came into the White House under the notion that he was a "uniter, not a divider," and since then, Bush has overseen the most idealogically-divisive administration in our nation's short history. The politicization of every issue is supported, and at times, created, and at least, expanded, by the Bush administration, and that is why this executive branch is the least effective in generating public support for policies in a generation.

Intelligent Design’s Conclusion: God Hates Red States

Tom Toles is a national treasure. In high school, I was taught that Toles was a Buffalo treasure, but now that he has moved on from the Buffalo News to the little-known Washington Post, in my eyes, he has become a "national treasure." (Click on image for full cartoon.)

An Historic Moment Any Way You Look At It

If you are pro-Roberts or anti-Roberts, or if you really don't care (if that were the case, you probably wouldn't be reading this blog; to that effect, we are alone here, but those people really do exist, believe it or not), the confirmation of John Roberts as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is an historic moment. In the two hudred sixteen years since the Constituion was officially ratified, this country has had only seventeen (17!) chief justices of the Supreme Court. (Would the Founding Fathers have envisioned that?)

I have blogged that the democrats were fighting an uphill battle with the Roberts nomination, and that the liberals should hedge their bets, save their monies, and fight hard against Bush's next nominee. And that was not because Roberts is from Buffalo, but because there was no plausible reason to not confirm him. He may be a conservative, but Roberts' degree of conservatism over time (possibly until 2040; talk abot job security) is unknown, and the overall sense is that he may not be too extreme a conservative. Hard-right religious conservatives despise him; that is a good thing.

Former Reagan Education Secretary: "Abort All Black Babies… No More Crime." (Audio)

On the September 28 edition of former Reagan Education Secretary Bill Bennett's radio show, the host unequivocally displayed the compassionate conservatism that defined the Reagan administration, an administration the Bush administration strives to emulate.

"I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."

Apparently, it is reported that the House Majority Leader will temporarily step down, as he surely assumes this will all pass (just like the nine-eleven commission, wmd commission, halliburton, etc.).

God And Science Finally Mix

A study shows that...

Religious belief can cause damage to a society, contributing towards high murder rates, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide.

According to the study, belief in and worship of God are not only unnecessary for a healthy society but may actually contribute to social problems.
