Bush Poll: Up Or Down?

CBS News aired on its website that their latest polls found Bush’s dismal approval ratings to be at an all-time low of forty-one percent. Can’t get any lower, right? Well, this is Dubya, we are talking about.

The big question remains is what will Bush’s image be to Americans as a result of the efforts to aid Hurricane Katrina victims. The consensus is clear: as of now, the administration has failed, and has failed badly. But what more can Bush do? The true answer is nothing. The reality: the investigation into what went wrong should follow the reduced funding to the Army Corps of Engineers in the New Orleans district (as that money was funneled to the rebuilding efforts in Iraq) and the illpreparedness by this administration, and others, for a heavily-forecasted major storm. Throw in the fact that there has been countless studies of the possible resulting damage (and flooding) following a Katrina-like hurricane in the city of New Orleans over the past five years, and we have “malfeasance.” Will Bush’s visit to the city in chaos today stem the tide of blaming the Bush administration? Probably not, but it certainly won’t hurt. Unless, of course, he continues to read from a script.
