Bush Walks Out; Refuses To Let Clinton Speak

At the end of a statement Bush made yesterday (and at times, horrifically dismantling the English language, as we know it) announcing an effort by former (and far superior) presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton to raise money for survivors of Hurricane Katrina, Bush hurriedly shook hands with Clinton and then took off. Bush’s father and Clinton stood there aimlessly expecting to take a few questions from the press, but Bush Jr. was to not have any of that. (Why let Clinton steal any of your tainted limelight?)

It is worth noting that Bush seems to have a hard time concentrating when Clinton is around. (Note: If anyone has the video of this please let me know, so I can post it. As of right now, neither Crooks & Liars nor onegoodmove has the video. You can see the video at CNN.com and CBSNews.com if you search hard enough. Or you can view the press conference in full at the White House web site.)
This is how Tim Grieve of Salon.com’s War Room described the awkward ending of the press conference…
As Bush ended his talk about gas prices and relief efforts today, Bill Clinton lingered for a moment in front of the cameras as if he wanted to say something or at least hear his successor say something more. The president walked briskly out of the room.Source: Salon.com
