God Finally Brings Good News: Pledge Is Unconstitutional

The New York Times headline said it all. The finding that the pledge of allegiance is unconstitutional is a win for liberty. Not liberalism; liberty. The United States Constitution declares that the government can not promote a religion; and “under god” in the pledge certainly does that. The Supreme Court, when faced with this exact same case before, pushed it aside on a technicality. That technicality doesn’t exist this time.

Will the conservative majority of the Supreme Court interpret the Constitution, or will they succumb to the relentless pressure from the religious right (and Bush), and retort with some half-assed conclusion, e.g., a child isn’t necessarily required to state the pledge, therefore it is not unconstitutional? Will John Roberts play a pivotal role (as Chief Justice)? Will Sandra Day O’Connor (if she hasn’t been replaced)?
And, when you think about it, if it hadn’t been for the fervent anti-communism following the end of the second world war, maybe the pledge would have remained intact this entire time, and we wouldn’t have had all these problems over these years… And will we then finally be able to rid ourselves of “in god we trust” on our dollar bills? (I don’t want to think about this nonsense when I am paying for goods and services.)
