White House Kamikaze

Dick Cheney has no fear. His top aide, Scooter Libby, has been indicted in the case investigating the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame, and Cheney, himself, has been implicated as a source of Valerie Plame’s name and status. The WMD rationale for the Iraq war has blown-up in the Bush administration’s face (sorry, poor pun), and Cheney still touts “intelligence” that WMD do exist in Iraq. Cheney continues to allege a relationship between Saddam Hussein and terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden despite evidence to the contrary. And now torture…

A former State Department official has pinned the Vice President as the reason torture had taken place in the POW-camps in Iraq and Afghanistan, and it is Cheney who has now “waged an intense and largely unpublicized campaign to stop Congress, the Pentagon and the State Department from imposing more restrictive rules on the handling of terrorist suspects,” namely torture. Wait a minute. The republican neo-conservative Vice President of the United States is campaigning against the GOP-controlled Congress, the neocon-friendly Defense Department, and the neocon-led State Department. The story here is simple: the vice president doesn’t care about his (or George W. Bush’s) legacy. Cheney is on a mission; a one-way mission. The vice president is willing to go down for the neo-con cause. Cheney is the kamikaze pilot in the White House prepared for duty.
