I’m going to go on record here that I do not buy any of this “Bush has seen the light” mantra that is being spread on the internet like tabasco at a rodeo clown school.* Of course Bush is more congenial with the opposition; what would you do if your opponents had taken both the House and Senate after you had repeatedly called them terrorist sympathizers for months on end?
Let’s bring it home. This is the same real-life scenario where you continually egg your neighbor’s house to his chagrin. But, surprisingly, your neighbor doesn’t try to stop you and the rest of the neighborhood actually cheers you on. So, you keep egging his house. Why not, it’s fun. And then, not-so-suddenly, a knock on the door. Your nice neighbor wants to talk to you. (I wonder about what.) And worse, the entire neighborhood (or, at least more than half) is standing behind him upset with you over the mess you made.
What would you tell him (and them) now? “Hey!! Let’s work together and clean this mess up. I always hoped it wouldn’t come to this. I’ve always tried to be all neighborly and stuff; it is the culture around here that poisoned me, not vice versa. (By the way, which ones of you voted against me?)“
* This was my attempt for a Ratherism. Oh, how I try.
