Nostalgia

I watched An Inconvenient Truth this weekend — very good, recommended — and it sure did feel, at times, like watching an Al Gore 2008 promo. As the documentary began, and Al Gore’s voice came over the image of a creek, I honestly shuddered. (There is just something with that voice of his.) And I didn’t realize the film was going to focus so much on Gore’s efforts.
But this got me thinking… what if Gore did run? He should seriously think about it: he is well-known; the last time he run, he won; and people openly wonder how different life would be if Bush hadn’t stolen Florida in 2000.
But what about Hillary? She is also deserving of a spot. So here is the idea… An experienced Al Gore runs second-fiddle to Hillary Clinton. That is right… a Clinton/Gore 2008 ticket for the democrats. How is that for nostalgia?
Let’s do even better. Florida Governer Jeb Bush should run for president. He was always supposed to. And we have long heard that VP Dick Cheney will not run for president, but what if he hung around as VP? Someone needs to tend to the Iraq War as we head into the next decade, right? Right.
So, there we have it… Clinton/Gore vs. Bush/Cheney in 2008. This is for real, people — it could happen.

There’s no doubt whatsoever that Gore’s popularity has only increased with “An Inconvenient Truth,” a truly excellent movie that showcases Gore’s wit and personality. But some nagging questions remain–What about Obama? What about McCain? Would Gore even want to play second-fiddle to Hillary after soing so for her husband? Your scenario is certainly possible, but I’m not certain it is probable.
