Garage du Avocet

I sketched up my thoughts on what I’d like to do with my garage this spring. Budget is always an issue, and functionality is the utmost concern. As well as is fitting two cars, year round. This is the major constraint. As an engineer, constraints make things better, i.e., easier to design. (Imagine designing something — anything, a building, a landslide repair, a sandbox — with no constraints. It’s nearly impossible.)

Here is my overall sketch…

The sectional view of the door…

And a detail for the floor as it approaches the garage door…

I sketched up plans for a pump house this past August.

Your garage plans look great! I’m certainly not a designer, but I’d think that no constraints on a design, albeit admittedly impossible in real life, would allow you to “blue-sky” it and design your ideal garage, building, or whatever. After all, isn’t this how Howard Roark got his start? (But, then again, I’m not an architect, designer or engineer.)

don’t quit your day job mr. engineer…..I assume you drew these sketches left handed and thus i have also assummed you are naturally righthanded.
