In the News… Vending Machine Lobbyists.

- Al Franken is running for Senate. I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me.
- The wall is crumbling… “A group of Republican lawmakers broke ranks with the White House on Wednesday and embraced a resolution opposing more U.S. troops in Iraq.“
- And now that there are dollar coins (again), the next step is for the U.S. mint to eliminate the paper dollar bill, and everything will be just fine. People will adjust. The Euro currency — with one- and two-dollar coins, same as Canada — is a great system. We shouldn’t govern our currency policy by the demands of the vending machine lobbyists.

Actually, from what I’ve read, vending machine makers don’t like dollar bills much either, since they can easily jam the vending machines and cost lots of time and money to repair. Eliminating the dollar bill (something the US Mint is still opposed to, or so it says) would be a great start. In addition, the one-cent coin should be dropped, as you’ve mentioned numerous other times in your blog.

But what will happen to the phrase, “A penny saved is a penny earned?” It would become meaningless!

Replace the word “penny” with the word “nickel” and, voila, meaning restored! American proverbs can indeed change with the times!
