In the 1972 presidential election, George McGovern carried only the state of Massachusetts. In 1974, after the full force of the Watergate scandal hit, denizens of that state had bumper stickers which read “Don’t blame me, I’m from Massachusetts.” Well, in this mess, “Dont blame me, I’m from Illinois.”
