Morning Train to San Francisco
This is a celphone photowonder of the train station around 6:30 in the morning on the first workday of the year. (This was also the day I had left my job in San Francisco, i.e., gave my employer four days notice.) I am looking southward, so that pink sky is above Berkeley in the distance.
In the News… Vending Machine Lobbyists.
- Al Franken is running for Senate. I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me. – The wall is crumbling… “A group of Republican lawmakers broke ranks with the White House on Wednesday and embraced a resolution opposing more U.S. troops in Iraq.“ – And now that there are dollar coins [...]
Good Morning
The sun is up, the sky is blue. It is beautiful, and … Enough John Lennon. The reason I am so chipper is that yesterday, I had lost all access to blogger, and was forced to email my posts, which limits my ability to link, post images, add labels, edit posts, etc. It was a [...]
Liveblogging the Bush Press Conference
Bush: You can be against my [surge] plan and support the troops, but you must fund my plan [to support the troops].
Liveblogging the Bush Press Conference
Sheryl (?): Does the House vote embolden the enemy, weaken your presidency? Bush: I hope this nonbinding resolution doesn't turn into a binding policy. Checkmate.
Liveblogging the Bush Press Conference
Ed Henry of CNN is pounding the president on Iranian intelligence: What assurance can you give the American people that the intelligence is sound? Bush: To think we are fabricating intelligence is crazy.
Liveblogging the Bush Press Conference
David Gregory of NBC asked the toughest question so far: Isn’t this Iran war buildup identical to the Iraq war buildup (WMDs, etc.), and the Iraq rationale fell apart. What gives? Bush avoided the question in a redundantly verbose response (a great time killer): Iran needs to come to the table, and halt their nuclear [...]
Liveblogging the Bush Press Conference
Bush on Iran: “My message to the Iranian people: Your leaders are making decisions that are isolating you from the world.” Touche.
In the News
- The debate is on… “The nonbinding resolution opposing the troop increase is the first step in forcing the president to wind down the nation's four-year war in which more than 3,100 U.S. military personnel have been killed, more than 20,000 wounded and an estimated $400 billion spent. – Google has violated copywrite laws in [...]
Mendocino
While camping along the Mendocino coast two summers ago, I developed a storyline for a horror movie. The original title was “Big River (The Mendocino War)” and the movie is supposed to last just a little over an hour. (It would be stupid of me to give away the plot right now, although I am [...]
Candidate Blogs
Jake Tapper briefly blogged the John Edwards blogger controversy — oh my — and I commented… I still don’t see why anyone would read a candidate’s official blog. The candidates have realized that a blog is just another outlet for their press releases. How much money do these bloggers make anyway? I blog, but I [...]
Morning Politoon
Toles on the differences between Iraq and Iran… Image: Washington Post
In the News… Ganjalis.
- No one believes the Bush administration’s evidence of Iranian influence in the Iraq chaos. Who would have seen this coming, taking into account the slam-dunk that was the Iraq WMD issue? – Mitt Romney has announced he will run for president. If he wins, the U.S. may have more than one first lady. Bonus. [...]
Top Five Cereals
I am an expert on breakfast cereal. Here are the top five all-time cereals, in no particular order… (Please note that any chocolate-based cereal is disqualified due to it being utterly disgusting, except Cookie Crisp, which is actually quite good, but did not make this list.) Crispix Image: Kellogg’s Just a clean good bowl of [...]
Morning Politoon
Being a fan of Tim Russert (and of his Buffalo roots), this Luckovich cartoon admittedly stings a bit, but it may be true… Image: Washington Post
In the News
- Building a case for war. Headline: “U.S. Says Arms Link Iranians to Iraqi Shiites.“ – Anti-U.S. videos are being posted on YouTube. And Google thought it would have legal troubles because of Daily Show clips. – And VP Cheney may be called as a defense witness. “This could be great theater.” Yea, somewhere between [...]
Ripping On Kos (Again)
I know I tend to rip on DailyKos often, but out of all the mindless bloggers at his website, the only readable writer is Kos. When I do peruse the monster blog, which happens to be daily, I only look for his posts, because he is the only one that actually has a sense of [...]
The Knack
A friend of mine, a former coworker, sent me this (non-political) humorous clip…
Midmorning Politoon
It is wonderful that Doonesbury is actually funny again… Image: Yahoo! Is it just me, or does Garry Trudeau sometimes take Doonesbury off on far-reaching unhumorous plateaus for weeks at a time? (Welcome back, hope you stay awhile.)
In the News
- A draft Gore movement is growing. – Is the end near? “The [Democratic] leaders described the [upcoming] vote [on the Iraq war] as the first step of many that will be taken by Democrats to try to force an end to the nearly four-year-old war that has killed more than 3,000 U.S. troops and [...]
