In the News

- Everyone seems to be writing off Cheney as an influence in the White House. I disagree. This is a vice-president that doesn’t care how he’s received in the press, nor does he have any qualms about openly lying to the press. I don’t see him going anywhere. If this administration has a weakness (and they have many), it is they fear the perception of having a weakness, and making the VP become less of a force in the White House would be just that.

- Republicans urged federal prosecutors to indict democrats in time for the 2006 mid-term elections, but not for “political reasons,” just corrupt Washington DC government official reasons.

- There is a minor controversy at Wikipedia where a 24-year-old dropout pretended to have a doctorate in theology and spent his time editing thousands of articles on the website. What was the first clue?

- And the Democrats may “propose legislation requiring the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraq by the fall of 2008.Question is, when will Bush change course and adopt an exit strategy?

Very perceptive comment about the VP’s influence in this administration. Cheney is a very dangerous man, since he has nothing to lose in taking the positions he does and in arguing for what he does. He most certainly will not “go gentle into that good night.”
