Quick Thought On Gun Massacre

A quick thought on this morning’s tragedy (and then back to work on a busy, busy day, part of a busy, busy week). A shooting like this is more surprising to me at a college, than say at a high school (Columbine, etc.) because high schools are more clique-oriented (jocks, nerds, drunks, stoners, death-metal freaks, etc.), and that atmosphere doesn’t really exist in college, from my perspective as a relatively-recent college graduate.

Also, Ana Marie Cox makes a great observation/point on the White House’s response that “the President believes that there is a right for people to bear arms.”

(Side note: A coworker of mine graduated from Virginia Tech ten years ago, and took some classes in the Norris Hall building where the shooting took place, although the building was not the main building for civil/geotechnical engineering, and thus most of her engineering classes were in a building nearby.)
