Although Haley enjoyed the desert, the new smells, sights and creatures, it was so hot and dry, Haley needed to find a home beneath our car. She did this on her own, with no direction or encouragement.
We set out on the day to get some scrambling in, a form of bouldering. I was new to this so I made my way to the top of every rock I could find (and get on top of).
Alas, it turns out getting down is always the more difficult part… (“Alright, turn the camera off.”)
My friend Will and I scrambling through boulders…
And exiting the boulders to reach daylight, er, the permanent hot sun shining on the baked earth that is the desert…
The one major thing that the park enforces is that everyone bring a lot of water. (For our three-night trip, we brought two cases of bottled water and three 2.5-gallon jugs.) My friend Will discusses how he is prepared for a desert hike…
