I hate books. I hate reading. And I hate the english language.
This is how I felt while reading my latest book. Accordingly, I have decided to put the book down; my wife thinks that is a good idea, now that I am near suicidal. (I stopped reading the book one week ago, I’m still trying to recuperate.)
I used to enjoy life, the little things, and the big things, and everything in-between. Now, I dread it. And it is all because of this book.
There was a time that I looked forward to the train ride home, precious time for me to delve into the next chapter of whatever I was reading. And now, that is all gone. I sit there lonely, with no character or plot development to immerse myself in. I waste the time. (I don’t even want to know what I think about, and lord knows, I can’t blog it.)
I don’t know who this John Fowles guy is, or thinks he is, but I’ve decided that I don’t care. I’m going to move on, whether or not this is the guy that wrote Robinson Crusoe.
This does not mean I will not pick this book up in the future, the far-off future, most similar to that depicted in Back to the Future, Part 2, with flying cars and hologram merchants. (Wait, that was supposed to take place in 2015, only eight years from now. What gives?) For now though, I must move on.
I will admit that this brief stint of reading heavily challenged me as a reader, and I mentioned to my wife that I thought that it would make me a better writer. That could be true, but loving life is more important. (Or even just getting by.)

I’ve avoided John Fowles’ works ever since I tried to read “The French Lieutenant’s Woman” and couldn’t muster enough interest in ANY of the characters in the book. That, plus the Matrushka-doll construction of the novel, didn’t compel me to read beyond about half of the book. I kept reading, hoping against hope, that things would get better. They didn’t.
You should read something more spirited and lighthearted, like “Atlas Shrugged.” Then, you’ll know what misery really is.

[...] Overall, a pretty good mix of classics and policy. Someday, I’ll pick up Fowles again. [...]
