- A new poll finds that “a majority of Americans think Congress should not continue to fund the war unless a timetable for withdrawal is put in place.” I participated in this poll. A little before dinner time, I received a phone call. “What are your feelings on the Iraq war?” asked the poller. “Bush sucks,” I replied.

- For the first time in recorded history — over 150 years — it rained on July 18 in the city of San Francisco. I was so confused I called in sick to work; I would have sworn the apocalypse was upon us.

- It wasn’t the president or vice-president that continued the war, it was a set of stubborn GOP senators (plus Joe Lieberman) that continued the war yesterday.

- And if I’m still around, in seventy years I’ll be able to eat the fish I catch in the San Francisco Bay for dinner. Up next, Lake Erie. (And, also, learn how to fish.)
