- An independent report to Congress concludes that the Iraqi Security Force “is ‘operationally ineffective’ and should be disbanded and reorganized.Wait until September… oh shit.

- Bush has no love in Congress as has “prevailed on only 14 percent of the 76 roll call votes on which he took a clear position,” the lowest mark in fifty years. Um, that’s not so good. (By way of kos.)

- Senator Larry Craig is thinking that his political life is not over, not yet. Maybe just one more GOP scandal will let the Senator slide on by, with little notice.

- Fred Thompson is using the Schwarzenegger method of running for higher office, making the announcement rounds on Jay Leno.

- And an iPhone minus the phone, a touch-screen iPod with a browser and wi-fi. Nice work, Apple.

Bush’s abysmal record in Congressional votes is simply a product of the contempt he’s held for Congress all these years. He and his advisors believed that they could mandate legislation from the top (Bush) down (to members of Congress) rather than trying to build any consensus for it. Ironic, isn’t it, that yet another of his campaign promises (“I’ll work with Congress in getting things done.”) rings as hollow as Lindsay Lohan’s promises to stop drinking.
