In the News

- Former Federal Reserve Chairmen Alan Greenspan on the economics of the Iraq war: “I have never heard them [President Bush and Vice President Cheney] basically say, ‘We’ve got to protect the oil supplies of the world,’ but that would have been my motive.” Mine too; it’s the only logical reason.
- I’m thinking Bush is looking for a speedy confirmation with his pick for Attorney General: Michael Mukasey. Talk about a dark horse.
- Obama is possibly hinging success in the campaign with his call for an end to the war, at least funding of the war. “We are going to bring an end to this war and I will fight hard in the United States Senate to make sure we don’t pass any funding bill that does not have a deadline.“
- And Hillary Clinton makes a big promise: “When I’m president, we’re going to get it done — we’re going to have universal health care.” Isn’t Bill back in the White House — even as chief decorator — enough of a selling point?

Becasue of political pressure, Greenspan had to back away from the assertions in his upcoming book that the war in Iraq was begun so the US would get Iraq’s oil. Everyone and his or her uncle in the Bush administration is now denying that the US wanted Iraqi oil, which makes me think it probably has some degree of truth to it. And I’m not a person who looks for conspiracies!

Sorry for the second comment, but I think you deserve a compliment on the blog redesign–it’s easier to read and I really like the way the entries for each day are highlighted and separated. The simple design you’ve chosen is clear and no-nonsense, much like the (general) tone of the blog.

Thanks for the kind words on the site redesign and — as always — your educated comments. The site redesign is still a work in progress; something about the date still irks me.
