In the News… A Hard Place.

- General Petraeus on whether the Iraq war is making the U.S. safer: “I don’t know, actually. And to say that on the anniversary of nine-eleven.

- Bush’s plan to stay the course “would leave approximately 130,000 U.S. troops on the ground by August 2008, roughly the same level that existed before Bush ordered the buildup early this year. The success of the surge in a nutshell.

- And Senator Barack Obama will lay out his plan to remove all troops in Iraq by the end of next year. Unfortunately, this does not make sense, nor is it useful. Obama is running for president, with the election at the end of next year. So while on the campaign trail, while running for president, Obama says that if he were president, he would withdraw all troops before he was even president. Politics. (Use your voice in the Senate, Mr. Obama, not on the campaign trail.)

Thank you for validating my concerns in your second paragraph about the proposed troop withdrawal next year–it’s just been reduced to a numbers game! I’m glad that I’m not the only one who sees through this charade!
