In the News… Friday.

Maybe once a week.

- Your tax dollars at work. FEMA is doing their own reporting.

- The Senate and House are looking to extend a mindless moratorium on internet access taxes. People with high-speed connections are expected to rejoice, knowing they will not have to pay an additional dollar or two on their bill. Solution: Assess any internet taxes based on income, i.e., low income families will be refunded upon tax-filing.

- Fox News is rooting against the candidacy of John McCain. At least wait until South Carolina; then hit him with the dirty stuff.

- Thompson for president. “We will not be a safer America if the whole world watches us being defeated by a bunch of kids with improvised explosive devices.” As Joe Biden put it, “divorced from reality.”

- For most votes in the House, a bill needs more than fifty percent to succeed. In order to guarantee health care for children of families in need, however, a bill is deemed a failure unless it garners two-thirds passage. How does one even begin to evaluate the priorities of the GOP?

- And this week’s sign that the apocalypse is upon us…* “Based on the law, prior rulings made by the Federal Election Commission and advice of expert outside counsel, Comedy Central is very comfortable that the network, ‘The Colbert Report’ and Stephen Colbert are operating well within federal campaign election laws.

- Oh wait, there’s more: “A Rasmussen Report national telephone survey has found that [Stephen Colbert] gains 13% of voters in a matchup with Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Hillary Clinton.” A viable third-party candidate.

* Borrowed, without permission, from Sports Illustrated. Does SI still do the ‘apocalypse’ feature?
