The Electability of Al Gore

How content are the democratic faithful with Hillary Clinton as the frontrunner? Not so much. The movement to draft Al Gore into the race for the White House is as strong as ever, and with a potential Nobel Prize on the horizon, Gore’s time to step in will be crystal clear: now or never, at least for the 2008 race.

The electability of Hillary Clinton has been an issue, as should be the electability of Al Gore. The former vice president lost a winnable election to the current president seven years ago, and since, Gore has become a lightning rod for the right to rip on. It would be nice to believe that the U.S. is sane enough, or that the U.S. electorate is intelligent enough to evaluate issues and platforms presented by candidates, and make a sound decision when the cast their vote. But we’re not. We are sold by 30-second commercials and 5-second sound bites.

And here is another thing. If Gore did enter the race, wouldn’t he act a little too pompous on the stage at debates, as if he had already won the race. That has been a major flaw with Gore in the past, and I don’t see him drawing massive voters from the other side of the political spectrum in the general election with his speaking style. That being said, Al Gore’s time has come, and I would welcome him into the race. Although I’m not sure what his old boss Bill Clinton would think about that.
