Superman Returns

This extension of the 1970s Christopher Reeve series has to be considered a disaster, besides the fact that the movie precedes Superman IV, which means all parties responsible realize that the film should have never happened. I think the main detriment of the relaunch is fatigue. The storyline is continued (so no fresh start for the children not around to see the Reeve films), the costume has not been modified (powder-blue tights), and the villain is forced (however, we are talking about comic books). I think it may have been considered a noble feat to include archived footage of Marlon Brando as Jor-El, but it should have been left on the cutting room floor, as it opens no doors, but closes many, with regard to potential scenes and storylines. They just should have started over, like Batman. However, I will admit, the use of the classic Superman music kicks ass (but they would’ve done that anyway).
