Not Answering

I was looking at new cellphones today online, my choice is Sprint — and yes, I am satisfied, thanks for asking — but I’ve noticed that it has always unsettled me (just a bit, mind you) that the website has always insisted on knowing my zip code before even browsing for phones.

Is the availability of phones that different across zip codes? Couldn’t they have asked for a state, or even a region? Does that mean that this cellphone or that cellphone is not available in, say, Tampa, Florida? If that’s true, will my phone cease to work in Tampa if I traveled there? If not, then why limit browsing the available phones by zip code? And even more importantly, what is going on in Tampa?
