Thank You

I just wanted to take a brief moment — and an entire blogpost — to thank the fine folks at CNN (based in Atlanta) and the rest of the country, mostly those east of the Rocky Mountains. Thank you very much.
When I learned that there was a scheduled California debate on Thursday evening, I was looking forward to watching, and studying the candidates positions and how they differ, and evaluate which I prefer since I vote this coming Tuesday. Unfortunately, I forgot that the California debate was for the east coast, and not California.
The debate started at 8pm, on the east coast, which is — if you do the math — only 5pm on the west coast. At 5pm, most people are either still at work, just leaving work, or on their way home from work. Oh, but what about dinner? Got to stop by the school and pick-up your child? Any other after-work errands?
Let me ask you this, east coasters. What would you think if an important television event started at 5pm your time? Would you be able to watch it? Would you take vacation time and rush home? Would you forget about dinner and the kids? Probably not.
Well, I’m sick of it. You east coasters have already seen your debates. Why take this one? You don’t deserve it. We do. It was the California debate for crying out loud.
So thank you, CNN, and thank you, America. You’ve ruined my week.

i hear your pain but can’t feel it. The reality is that the U.S. revolves around the east coast. Our NFL football games start at 1pm not 10 am, our TV shows start at night after dinner…..and the debates run at perfect times. Take pride in the fact that you have the better landscape and weather. For all purposes, it wasn’t a great debate anyways.
