Clinton’s Last Chance

Even if Hillary Clinton does squeak out a victory in Ohio (within five points or so) tomorrow, I am staying put with my prediction that she will concede the following morning. And this is why: she will look like a loser, and that’s a hard image to shed.

Clinton must win Texas and she must win Ohio. But now only that, she must decisively win both. If Clinton does win big, and carries the evening, then she will have renewed reason to stay in the race… all the way to the convention. If she doesn’t, however, if she barely beats Barack Obama in both Texas and Ohio, there is simply nowhere else for her to go.

She’s played the woman angle, the health insurance angle, and the “oh-my-god-the-world-is-a-dangerous-place” (aka, the red phone) angle. And if she loses tomorrow, none of that worked.

There are a couple of things going in her favor:
    1) Rush Limbaugh (see CNN.com article) has been urging all of texas republican voters to cross over and vote for hillary tomorrow so that the election will continue and drain all of the energy from the future dem. candidate. He also states that all of clintons negativity will damage Obama by the time the convention comes.
    2) Florida Republican Governer is offering a tax payer financed Re-election for the Dem. Delagates (in violation with the current rules)- See CNN.com article. Same reason, the Republicans want this fiasco to continue.
    3) If she wins big, I could understand why she would stay in…..but if she loses or wins by small margin and doesn’t drop out, she will be inevitably hurting her own party. It will be interesting to see what happens.
