First Weekend

Overall, I am satisfied with my bracket (so far). I picked 23 out of 32 in the first round, and landed 11 out of my Sweet Sixteen teams. That is not too bad. In the ESPN.com challenge, I rest at 86.5%.
In the extreme foresight category, I chose 12-seed Villanova and 7-seed West Virginia (over Duke) correctly. That is as good as my Big East bias can get me. The bad: the five other Big East teams lost. That is a 37.5 percent retention rate; not good.
The shining light: For the first time in a very long time, none of my Elite Eight teams (and further obviously) are missing after the first weekend. I usually have one bracket-buster each year, a second-round upset that rips a red-line through to the final four, and tears a heart out of my chances. Not this year.
But as always, I will be rooting against my bracket from here on in (which is why it pays not to gamble on these things). I am hoping that “Cinderella” Villanova* topples 1-seed Kansas, a team I have in the final. Oh well.
* Villanova cannot be considered a “Cinderella” — at least in my opinion — because they are in a big conference.
