China Twofer
I don't mean to make light of the devastating earthquake that has destroyed the lives of millions of people in China, in any way whatsoever, but the following news story on the subject seems illogical to me... In a report on the nation's one-child policy, a story suggests that "couples who lost an only child in this week's massive earthquake, the tragedy has been doubly cruel."
That may be true, but being that the large number of young child deaths occurred at poorly-constructed schools, isn't it reasonable to believe that had the parents had a second child, presumably within a couple years of the first, that that second child too may have perished in the earthquake?
I cannot even come close to understanding the grief that Chinese families are living through this unimaginable horror, however, I feel such "human interest" stories are misleading and rhetorical, especially on a topic as grave as a regionally-devastating earthquake, and do not deserve front-page mention on newspapers or websites.
