I finished up the Hemingway tome last week, and I was thoroughly amused. It is easy to tell that Hemingway had a big influence on Jack Kerouac.
I have ventured off into new territory for my next book. I have been wanting to get Matt Miller’s The Two Percent Solution for quite sometime — since 2003, exactly — and I finally did…

The basis of the book is that there is an area of compromise between the left and right in this country, and with only two percent of our budget, the country can solve almost all of its domestic issues.
This subject is of great interest to me because I feel the only way we will make progress in this country, is if we meet somewhere in the middle, and deal with issues head-on, and not simply delay them for future generations. For too long, weak politicians took the easy route, gave the easy answers, and left the substantive question still in the air. Maybe this book will offer some bold new ideas.
This is the first “policy” book that I have tried to read, so I’ll try to keep my head above water, and I will also try to resist the temptation to copy-paste a block of text and post it to my blog.

I plan on posting more on that topic and others in the near future. A great book, with many ideas of workable solutions. I only wish it weren’t written five years ago and now almost everyone has forgotten about it. One very interesting subplot however, addressed in the afterword, was that John McCain and Barack Obama were mentioned as the two leaders in Washington who would most likely move forward with the ideas in the book, and voila… I guess we’ll see.
