The Boomer-Clinton Love Affair

I wanted to post this awhile back, in the midst of the Obama-Clinton slug-fest; alas, I ran out of time. Holding down four-and-a-half jobs, all the while volunteering at my local societies, and still not being able to fill-up my gas tank, unfortunately leaves me with not enough time to post all of the entries that I intend to write. I need to do better. Anyway…

What is the deal with baby boomers and Hillary Clinton? I think I know. The boomers — the first me-first generation — feels that their time is up, and they do not like it. They have had their generation’s presidents — Bill Clinton (twice) and George W. Bush (ugh, twice) — and they didn’t want to end that run. But sixteen years is long enough. That is a generation. It’s time to move on. Barack Obama and the younger generation steps-up.* Generation X, Y, Z, etc. It is a part of life. And just like those Dennis Hopper commercials for life insurance or whatever-it-is, the baby boomer generation simply doesn’t want to let go. But they have to. They’ve had their presidents. It is time for boomers to make-up the president’s advisers (or even vice-president), but the next generation must take the reins and lead.

* Paradoxically, and humorously so, the GOP is moving backwards into an older generation with the nomination of John McCain.
