A Changed Game

Well, Palin was certainly a game-changer, but you never know exactly how the outcome of the game will be affected. McCain is learning that now.

Although a lot of this early stuff will blow over, news reports questioning the judgment of John McCain (because of the Palin pick) cannot be helping the campaign, especially during the week of the party’s convention, which is meticulously staged to release only good news.

The issue with Palin’s seventeen-year old daughter being pregnant (and unmarried), is not that her daughter is pregnant and unmarried. The issue is that Palin supports abstinence-only education, yet abstinence-only education obviously doesn’t work in Palin’s household. That is an issue that Palin needs to address.

Whether or not Palin was a member of a pro-Alaskan secessionist movement, or if she orchestrated the political firing of the state public safety commissioner, are immaterial as a whole with regards to her nomination and qualifications for vice-president.

Exactly how the Alaska governor and the McCain campaign answer these questions — and whether they keep her on-board — and weave a storyline through the election is the bigger issue.

This VP choice was simply and purely a “political and Media-coverage decision” to combat the momentum created by the impressive performance by Obama and the clintons at the end of the Democratic convention. I don’t think that this choice was completely thought through and may be a brilliant decision (McCain’s camp tricks women into voting for him and Palin), or will become a huge disaster, emphasizing McCains lack of judment on major decisions as more information leaks out about her life.
I don’t honestly think that McCain wanted her as his VP, this was a campaign and RNC decision to alter the race and give McCain a fighting chance. It may pay off, it all depends on the media coverage over the next few months and her debating skills.
