Philly Analogy Redux

I continue to take a beating (rhetorical, of course) over my comments on Philly fans and subsequent Philadelphia analogy.

From an email…

So let me guess. According to your analogy, Buffalo is the hottest girl in the school? Your [sic] an idiot. Buffalo sucks.

No, Buffalo is not the hottest girl in the school. Buffalo is Philadelphia’s cousin that lives far off in the country (i.e., in an entirely different league). Except she is not ugly like Philadelphia, just fat. Fat girls will always find a man who will love them; ugly girls do not. That is the difference. Buffalo is a scorned city, with scorned sports fans; but they are still madly in love. Also, the fat girl has a ganja connection; they always do.

If we continue your analogy to its logical conclusion, then, Chicago must be the wallflower at the dance, a girl with a “great personality.” (And we all know what THAT means!)

even a great blogger creates ill-conceived posts. This Philadelphia story is one of those. I do feel many of the points are valid. However, a couple of notes should be considered. Phili is the birth place of our country’s independence. It is a place where under high criticism at strenuous times, the declaration was conceived, written and signed. There has always been the essence of “demanding perfection” in that great city. And with this demand for perfection comes a skepticm of mediocrity. When people or (teams) have the potential for greatness but act mediocre; they deserve to be called on it.
That said, there are alot of legitimate reasons the city is nicknamed filtha-delphia. But don’t forget the history………..it only happened once….and only in 1 place………..philadelphia.

    Ill-conceived, or misunderstood?
