Martin

Jim Martin should have done the right thing. He lost on November 4 by approximately 110,000 votes. The state of Georgia’s silly law required an automatic run-off because no one received at least fifty percent (plus one) of the votes. (Martin’s opponent, the detestable Saxby Chambliss, garnered 49.8 percent. Round up, my friends; round up.)
Run-off elections, like all elections, cost money. The vote wasn’t even close. Martin should have conceded the race, leaving Chambliss unchallenged in the automatic run-off. It was poor sportsmanship. Fittingly, Martin was trounced in the rematch.
Note: I was hoping that Martin would upset the incumbent Chambliss, however, the voters of Georgia didn’t agree. Both times.
