Ninjas

A couple driving in a small sedan, late afternoon, traffic picking up, the sense that rush hour is about to begin. A stop sign. A quick pull right. An acceleration followed by a deceleration. A quick brake finds the couple resting beneath a mid-sized cargo truck, similar to a middle-of-the-line U-Haul. The truck is white. The sky is grey. The couple collectively takes a deep breath. They look up at the large white doors of the cargo-hold. The doors are barren of large writing, images or advertising, except for a small rectangle on the lower-left side, outlined in red. How Is My Driving? 1-800-177-9854. The couple waits for the light to change. The man — in the driver seat — looks out his left window and peers into the side-view mirror. Nothing of significance. He looks forward, and then up at the truck once more. He turns to his wife. “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if these doors flew open, and a bunch of ninjas jumped out?” The wife looks at her husband and nods. She humors him. The lights change. Congestion awaits.
