A couple weeks ago, I finally caved in to pressure I am not sure is even there. I created a Twitter account. I’m not sure if that is even how you say it. I created a Twitter. And then I tweeted. I have alternately set it as private and public, but that is not the point. I am not sure what to do with it. At all.

I have all but left Facebook (down to three “friends” — my wife, sister and brother). This leaves a void, I guess. If I’m heading to Tahoe or Philadelphia, it would be nice to announce that. I guess. I have a blog, and I post content here, and I don’t really have any motivation to advertise updates on Twitter. That seems like a royal waste of time. I understand that the 140 character limit is based on text messages, but most people post via the web or some web-based utility. I don’t understand that. I also don’t text message. If I did, maybe things would be different.
I use email a lot, and I do not think Twitter will replace that, either in form or function. And I do not really want any short IM-type messages to be public (except for ones that I publish here publicly, that is). I have also discovered that I do not talk to people enough, so I want more voice interaction, not less. I desire context, not fluff.
There are reports that Twitter is the future, that publishing bits in broken English is the next step on our way to colonize Mars. I don’t see that, but I don’t see many things. Can someone please tell my why I should post to Twitter? And should it be in complete sentences (because I would prefer that)? And what if I don’t want to “follow” anybody, would that be rude? Is there a method to not display the number of followers?

As you may recall, I signed up when we were in Tahoe. I have yet to really use it. I update every three or so days, when I remember I have the damn thing. It annoys me, still, and I continue to do it. Like people that keep drinking beer so they can acquire the taste, I guess…
Is this the future? I sure as eff hope not. If it is, I’m building my ass a time machine or becoming Amish. We’ll see which one is easier when we get there.
Also, for what it’s worth, I post there in complete sentences and absolutely refuse to use any sort of word derived from the name “twitter.”

ps- why are your google ads telling me about Acuras and BMWs? I thought they were supposed to be intelligent.

@aly – Isn’t building a time machine the same thing as becoming Amish?

this twitter crap is annoying at best. If i see Mccain on a news show one more time…… with 2 pounds of caked-on makeup so he will look 65 years old instead of 90…..chattering on about how he uses “twitter”,
I’m gonna lose it. I don’t care if this thing is innovative, the name itself is horrible branding and quite annoying.
