Best Baseball Films
Yesterday, I reviewed Major League in my film retrospective series, and noted that the film is in the top five baseball movies, and the best baseball comedy. That may not be the case. Instead of updating the post, or appending a comment to the post, the topic of the best baseball movies is good enough [...]
Free Bonds
It stuns me to learn that former Giants slugger Barry Bonds has been indicted for lying about using performance-enhancing drugs to hit more home runs when former presidential nominee Bob Dole admitted to using drugs to enhance his performance in the bedroom, to score more home runs with his wife, and nothing happened. It is [...]
In the News
The Friday edition. – I usually don’t have respect for murderers, besides OJ Simpson (he is just so lovable in those Naked Gun films), but one has to respect the audacity of Scott Peterson’s request to collect on his wife’s life insurance policy. I really need to go to law school to take advantage of [...]
Coors Presents
I will be rooting for the Colorado Rockies (and I hope you do too) in the World Series against the Boston Red Sox. I offer three reasons for consideration… (1) Let’s face it, the democrats have Massachusetts all sewn up. What the democrats need is Colorado’s electoral votes. Maybe a World Series win will change [...]
Attributing Esspin
A columnist for the ESPN.com website, Jim Caple, who I assume gets paid, has made the exact same point (and dedicates an entire column to the subject) that I expressed last week, that unnecessary (non-travel) days off in the playoffs is a bad idea. However, it comes without attribution, which apparently only goes one way [...]
The Cleveland Indians Expansion Curse
The Cleveland Indians had a chance at two World Series titles in the mid nineties, in 1995 against the Atlanta Braves, the team of the decade, and then two years later against the Florida Marlins, in only the Marlins’ fifth season of existence. The Indians lost to the Marlins in seven games, in what has [...]
Best-Of-Five Results In Four Best
The National League Championship Series (herein, “NLCS”) begins tonight, and the American League Championship Series (herein, “ALCS”) begins tomorrow. There has been a lot of gripe expressed in the sports media that the best-of-five series format for the opening “Divisional” round is flawed, that the winner is not necessarily the better team, due to the [...]
Bonds’ Way
Barry Bonds played his last game in San Francisco as a Giant last night, and he did it his way. The Giants orchestrated a tribute to Bonds towards the end of the game that included video and audio set to Frank Sinatra’s My Way, which I thought was an interesting choice. As the lyric goes, [...]
A’s Superfan Network: Cubs 4, Giants 2
Last Wednesday evening, the A’s Superfan Network went on the road to San Francisco for an annual Giants-Cubs game tradition. The Chicago Cubs ended up beating the Giants in ten innings, 4-2, and along the way, there was way too much drinking… Special Guests: Jesus Espinoza, B.H. Bronson Johnson and Brooks Ramsdell.
Blogging Live from San Francisco
I’m in San Francisco for a classic Cubs-Giants game. Barry Bonds will not be going for the record, but the A’s Superfan Network will be podcasting on the road. And there’ll be drinking. Game-time: 7:15pm.
E-Diddy
My sister-in-law made the news… “[Tour for the Cure's Tim Riley's] girlfriend, Edyta Szczepankowska, 24, who works in the investment office at the University of Pennsylvania, visited him at the game in Trenton. She hopes to get an MBA and, with regard to the 50-50, favors unrestricted competition. ‘You don’t see Apple crying about IBM,’ [...]

Staying on top of my pursuit of Bonds… The dream is over, yesterday.* * From John Lennon’s “God.”

Bonds Countdown
On Wednesday, August 22, I will be attending the Cubs-Giants game at AT&T Park in San Francisco. If Barry Bonds gets in a slump, pulls a groin, or whatever, I may have a chance to witness either his record-tying or record-breaking home runs, or even better, both. Number of Giants games from now until August [...]
Kendall Plain Sucked
I have been so happy since I learned that my beloved Oakland Athletics traded the worst player in baseball — Jason Kendall — to the Cubs. Words do not describe it. (Almost every edition of the A’s Superfan Network included a conversation on the disaster that was Kendall’s time in Oakland.) From my local paper… [...]
In the News
- Although it may be somewhat undemocratic, a smaller group of presidential aspirants in the debates would be more beneficial. – Politicians who once showed off their support for Bush are now hoping he stays away come election cycle. This hypocrisy should be covered in the media. The president was once a darling of the [...]
A’s Superfan Network: Giants 4, Blue Jays 3
On Monday evening, I was the gracious guest (again) of Tour for the Cure as they travel across the country to every baseball stadium. Last week, I went to the Oakland A’s game, and on Monday, it was the fancy San Francisco Giants, at their wondrous ballpark… The highlight of the game came when Barry [...]
Blogging Live from San Francisco
I’m here at a friend’s business office, a stop along the way to tonight’s San Francisco Giants / Toronto Blue Jays game, a classic in the making. As they say in San Francisco, “whenever the Giants face off against the Blue Jays, it is always a good one.” I’m the guest (again) of Tour for [...]
