- There was a report on McCain's campaign on NPR this morning, with the GOP nominee declaring, "When I'm president, we won't have $4 gas, because we'll be drilling off-shore for more oil, right here, right now." News-flash: Off-shore drilling will not reduce the price of gas at the pump, especially in the near future [...]

Oil Spoils
Posted at 1:07 pm | Filed Under Uncategorized
What is the GOP talking point? We need to give energy companies tax incentives to explore for oil. It seems quarterly profits of "$11.68 billion, the highest-ever for an American company," is not enough.
The recent extravagant run-up of prices at the pump (upwards of $4.50 for regular in California) was not because of the increased [...]

9/11 and 4.11

"After 9/11, Mr. Bush had the chance to summon the country to a great nation-building project focused on breaking our addiction to oil. Instead, he told us to go shopping. After gasoline prices hit $4.11 last week, he had the chance to summon the country to a great nation-building project focused on clean energy. Instead, [...]

McCain’s Oil Drilling Psychobabble
Posted at 10:49 am | Filed Under Uncategorized
"Even though it may take some years [for oil production to be realized], the fact that we are exploiting those reserves would have psychological impact that I think is beneficial." -- John McCain, speaking about his plan to allow states decide whether or not to drill for oil in currently-protected coastal waters.
Ladies and gentlemen, a [...]

White House Muffs Energy Rationale
Posted at 12:43 pm | Filed Under Uncategorized
"Anyone out there saying that something can be done overnight, or in a matter of months, to deal with high gasoline prices is trying to fool people. There is no tool in the toolbox out there that will lower gas prices overnight, or in weeks, or probably not even in months." -- White House spokesman [...]

Backwards Thinking

John McCain's energy proposal is an example of an illogical backwards-thinking mentality...
One nation today has plans to build almost 50 new [nuclear] reactors by 2020. Another country plans to build 26 major nuclear stations. A third nation plans to build enough nuclear plants to meet one quarter of all the electricity needs of its people [...]

Gas Tribulations Continued
Posted at 7:50 pm | Filed Under Uncategorized
Well, I'm certainly onto something. Today's gas purchase was exactly $75. Again. Alright, so my credit card only allows me to buy $75 worth of gas at one time, which up until now, has been reasonable. What happens when per gallon costs exceed $5? Will I be forced to fill-up in stages?

Gas Trials Continued
Posted at 9:03 am | Filed Under Uncategorized
There's something happening here, what it is ain't exactly clear.
My gas purchase this morning... 16.857 gallons (or so the machine tells me) @ $4.449 per gallon = $75.00. Exact. Just like last time. I'm thinking now that I'm capped at $75.

Gas Trials And Tribulations
Posted at 10:41 am | Filed Under Uncategorized
I didn't even try to make this happen; it just did.
I topped off my gas tank yesterday evening with 17.356 gallons of gas (or so the machine tells me), and priced at $4.319 per gallon, resulted in a total bill of $75.00. Exact.

Fill’er Up
Posted at 9:46 am | Filed Under Uncategorized
I wanted to re-thank everyone who has taken the time to write me well-wishes regarding the California gas-pump prices. It finally happened today. I paid $4.22 (and nine-tenths of a cent) per gallon this morning. And since my tank wasn't completely empty at fill-up, I did not pass that total purchase price threshold of $70. [...]

Oil Prices Render Some Pumps Obsolete, But Who Cares?

I wanted to thank everyone that has sent well-wishes over the past few weeks. I want to let all of you know that I have not yet paid $4 per gallon for gasoline, but I truly appreciate the kind thoughts, and the time and effort.
My most recent gas purchase clocked-in at $3.96 per gallon, and [...]

Unfortunately, the energy bill being voted on doesn't include either. A do-nothing Congress?
