  Why is ‘laughter’ pronounced “laffter” and ‘slaughter’ (‘laughter’ with an ‘s’ in front) pronounced “slawter”? How can you go fishing for ‘bass’ (pronounced “bahss”) in the morning and play the ‘bass’ (pronounced “base”) guitar in the evening? The english language does not make sense.
